For the love of gravel
Following Clay through Gold Hill one perfectly dreary morning just before dawn.
From Eden
I always used to think of creating art as an avoidant healing tool. A distraction if you will. But in June of 2022 when we filmed this, I was grappling with the question “At what point should we avoid distraction?” At what point should we turn and fully face what’s in front of us, what we’re feeling, what we can’t feel but want to feel, what we don’t know? At what point does distraction subtract? And at what point does it add?
Now, I’ve decided that for me, creation is absolutely a way to channel the feelings I am experiencing, a way to try and process the things I don’t understand and face the things I’m unsure of. For me, creation is always an addition. Even when the emotions fueling that creation are challenging to work through, it will always feel good to create. I know that now.
A Moment of Comfort
I will never miss a sunrise trip to the lake with childhood best friends when visiting home. Here’s to memories made and cherished among the layers of steel blue waves lapping along the shores of Lake Michigan.
No Service
It doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s as simple as playing in the mud and dancing in the rain. Checking out of daily to-do’s and in to the sound of the river rushing by as you fall asleep. Being together in the middle of nowhere is preferred.
In a Year’s Time
Sometimes taking a leap without knowing your landing is the best thing you can do. Do more, see more, love more, grieve more. Experience more, share more, dance more, care more. Give more. To yourself, to others, to this life.
